When Jon told me that he would like to organize a super sprint triathlon in Riverhead, I got excited. I really enjoy training out on the eastern part of Long Island and this was the perfect opportunity to do just that.
Since Ray lives close to me, we went out east together. Our bikes were racked on the car rack and our gear was placed in the car. Joanne and Jon met us at Suffolk Community College for the first leg of the triathlon.
The Swim
We jumped into the Suffolk Community College pool at 6:05 am, where we had 30 minutes to complete as many laps as we could. Swimming alongside my fellow triathletes, I felt more motivated than ever to push myself to my limits.
The Bike
Once we finished, we picked up our bikes and took on a 10-mile route that led us through some beautiful scenery. Along the way, we encountered some minor construction work, which was slightly nerve-wracking but added to the excitement.
The Run
After the bike ride, we switched to running shoes. The two-mile run led us back to the college campus where we started.
This DIY super sprint triathlon was a great way to spend a Friday morning. With great company and perfect weather, we all pushed ourselves beyond our limits while enjoying the beauty of Riverhead.
If you’re up for a challenge, why not try organizing your own DIY mini-triathlon? It’s the perfect combination of sweat, scenery, and camaraderie that’ll really get your heart pumping and put your skills to the test.
Following the sprint, we all went to a cute little breakfast place by the old train station in Riverhead and had a yummy delicious breakfast before heading home.
What an amazing morning thanks to Jon!
