I find it so interesting that when we approach a landmark birthday, we all want to do something out of our comfort zone. Some people want to lose weight before they turn 30; others want to run their first race before 50; and still others, like Harold Cabrera, wanted to compete in three amazing accomplishments before his 40th birthday.
The book, Chase that Smile – Approaching Midlife: a Marathon, Mount Kilimanjaro, and an Ironman Triathlon, is a book that is real and offers some strong insight into Cabrera’s state of mind.
About Chase that Smile
The book is written like a diary. Harold Cabrera posts his workouts, how he felt, how they went, and more. He also talks about his struggles trying to juggle everything. Cabrera took on three huge goals. He wanted to PR the Paris Marathon. He and his wife had a goal of climbing the tallest mountain in Africa, Mt. Kilimanjaro. And, he wanted to compete in his first Ironman Triathlon in Nottingham.
Just as life, family obligations, and business get in the way of training, I felt I really could relate to this book. When you read it, you feel like you are taking the journey with Cabrera. When he smiles at his children and his wife, you tend to smile too.
Cabrera suffers some minor injuries along the way but he absolutely kills his three goals for 2017 and concludes around his 40th birthday when his daughter provides him with a heartwarming letter.
What did I think
I loved the book. I found it compelling and I didn’t want to put it down. Cabrera lives in London and his experience training takes place there. You can envision where he was and how the training went, which was exciting for me.
You have to respect someone who raises a family and spends so much time training and working. I couldn’t do that when I was in my 30s. I was so busy developing my business and raising the family. But as soon as the kids grew, I started training. They too were my inspiration.
If you’re looking for an exciting book that will motivate you for your next event and make you smile, pick up Harold Cabrera’s book. You can get it on Amazon.
