Just a Few Tidbits at the Gym

Tidbit #1 – Competing in the Pool

I don’t know about you, but I swim alone at my health club. We have four lanes and I am usually next to someone very competitive. Anyway, the other day, I was swimming, minding my own business when I saw a young man try to race me.

Well, if you know me, I’m not going to let that happen. So, I kicked it into high gear and went out as hard as I could.

When I was done, he stood at the end of the pool looking at me.

“You’re a good swimmer,” I said to him.

“Really? Did you think so? I could barely keep up with you,” he said.

I smiled. “How much did you swim?” he asked me.

“Oh, it was a short day. I only did around 1500 or so. Just an easy workout,” I answered.

He shook his head. “I just have to tell you, you are amazing.”

I smiled. That made me feel so good. I’ve been swimming now since 2014 and having someone say that to me made me feel special.

Tidbit #2

At Lifetime Gyms, you do not have to wear a mask. The other day, a woman walks into the locker room, comes right next to me, and opens locker #369. My stuff was in it. She quickly shut it. “Oh, I’m sorry,” she said. “But I thought I was the only one using locker 369.”

I’m not sure if she knows that there are hundreds of members at Lifetime, but be it as it may… I let it go.

“I’m leaving now,” I said and quickly scooped my clothes out of the locker.

“Oh, it’s okay,” she said, “I’m a germaphobe and won’t use a locker that I think had been used.” Meanwhile, she wasn’t wearing a mask.

“If you were such a germaphobe, you would wear a mask,” I said to her, wearing my mask for fear of getting sick.

“Oh I used to but I don’t think it’s necessary now,” she told me. “Really,” I said.

She didn’t want to start with me but she put her stuff in a different locker and went upstairs.

Tidbit #3

I went to the gym, which is about twenty minutes away from my home. I was planning on doing the elliptical for thirty minutes. I got out of the car, went inside, put my stuff in a locker, and realized, I forgot my sneakers!

After brainstorming with myself on what to do, I just went upstairs and used the elliptical anyway in my Ugg boots. I must have looked silly but at least I got the workout done.

Tidbit #4

Again, I was in the pool at the gym. I was swimming along with Goldfrapp when I saw a guy next to me trying to compete against me in the water. He was going fast and I started to push to keep up or beat him. No such luck. This time he was a little ahead of me. When I said, “wow you’re fast…,” He looked at me with a big smile on his face…
