In 2011, I ran the New York City Half Marathon with my husband. This was the first major race I ever ran. It was the hardest thing I ever did but I did it.
And now, three years later, I’m in it again.
A few weeks ago, I got a message from New York Road Runners that I wasn’t in. Then I got an interesting note from them saying that they were expanding the half and to “click here” to put your name back in the hat. I clicked. I called my running partner to click. She told me she didn’t get the email so she wrote to NYRR and told them to re-consider her too.
I wondered if we were in. I kept checking but nothing. Then, while I was on the phone with my sister, Lori, I got the email.
“OMG, I’m in???” I said to her.
“What are you talking about?” she asked. “In what?”
“The NYC Half,” I said. “I have to call Marti. I got to go…”
I texted my running partner, Marti. She didn’t get the email. She never got the email.
My heart was in a panic. I love running with Marti. She and I make a great team. We ran the Diva Half and the Disney 10 Miler together. How could I do this alone? Can I do this alone?
I have eight weeks to decide. I’ll train and see where it takes me.
In the meantime, I signed up for Coach John Honerkamp’s virtual training program and I’ll take it one day at a time.
