It’s amazing how a stupid injury can set you back. I was upset about cancelling the Half Marathon in Disney. I’ve been going to a knee specialist in the city and she’s been treating me with “rooster” shots. I’m not kidding. They really are taken from a rooster. (I just hope they didn’t kill the little one on my behalf!)
Rooster Shots
The doctor is saying that the rooster will put a cushion in my knee so that it has more bounce. She said that I’m not out of the clear for potential surgery, but I’m fighting through it.
So what have I been doing for the last few months? Not that much and I’ve been feeling down about it. I decided to make a change. I hired a trainer to come to my office two days a week.
Then Spin
And, after months of my friend, Constance Korol, telling me about this amazing spin class at the Equinox gym in Woodbury, I decided to join. I know…. I know… It’s a million miles from my home, but it’s not too far from my Melville office. Since I was there, it was actually pretty convenient.
“You have to go to Tripp’s spin class on Friday mornings,” Constance said.
“Ok,” I said. “What time is it?”
“The first one is at 6 a.m. and the second one is at 7:15 a.m.” she told me.
I cringed. It takes me a half hour to 45 minutes to get there. Boy, I would have to leave super early to be there on time.
Checking out Tripp’s Class
A few weeks ago, I decided to join her at the 7:15 a.m. class. I was a little worried about my knee, but decided that I would fight through the pain.
I set up my bike and started to spin. Constance was next to me. “Come on guys, it’s a bright shining day,” Tripp, the instructor screamed. Everyone in the class was getting riled up.
The class continued to be high energy. Tripp was actually jumping, running around the class inspiring people and he even started to climb on the window. I was taken aback. Who is this guy? And why do people love him so much?
By the middle of the first class, I understood why. He is incredibly motivational. Throughout the class he offers spiritual insights and touches everyone who takes the ride with him.
The next class
I decided to take the class again. It reinforced my decision to stick with it. You really have to be totally motivated to get up at the crack of dawn and walk into such a high-energy class, but Tripp’s class is totally worth it.
I especially loved when he played “The Time Warp” from the Rocky Horror Picture Show. (I think when I was younger I saw that movie over a 100 times!) My heart monitor said I was at 175. I don’t think I’ve ever gotten that high!
Loving Spin
What I loved the most about the class was when it was finished, he went around, shook everyone’s hand and thanked everyone for riding with him.
I looked at Constance today and told her, I’m hooked! She smiled and shook her head. “Now you know what I was talking about….” she said.
After the class, I decided to keep going strong with training twice a week, gym three times a week, yoga once a week and running once a week. I’m going to try to run with Marti DiPaola (my running mate) this weekend.
