When it comes to running gear, a cap is often an overlooked yet essential accessory. It protects you from the sun and keeps sweat out of your eyes, all while adding a sporty touch to your look. Recently, I tried the Sun Day Afternoons Vapor Lite, an ultra-lightweight cap designed specifically for running. Here’s my comprehensive review.
Design and Features: A Mix of Typical and Unique
At first glance, the Vapor Lite looks like your typical running cap. It has a streamlined design that sits comfortably on your head, with just the right amount of snugness. However, a closer look reveals some unique features that set it apart.
One standout feature is its foldability. The cap can be easily folded up, making it incredibly portable. Whether you’re going for a hike or a trail run, it can be conveniently stored in your bag or even your pocket when not in use.
Another distinctive feature is the sides of the cap, which open up to provide added protection against sun exposure. This can be particularly useful if you’re running during peak sun hours or on trails with minimal shade.
Functionality: Lightweight but Lacking
The Vapor Lite, as the name suggests, is ultra-lightweight. This is definitely one of its strong points. When wearing it, I barely felt its presence, which is exactly what you want from a running cap. It didn’t add any extra weight or cause discomfort, even during longer runs.
However, despite its innovative features and lightweight design, I must admit that I didn’t love the cap. While the added sun protection is commendable, I found it somewhat cumbersome to adjust the sides during a run. The cap, though functional, lacks the simplicity and ease of use that I typically look for in running gear.
Not Perfect, But Worth a Try
All in all, the Sun Day Afternoons Vapor Lite is a decent running cap. It’s lightweight and portable, with some unique features designed for sun protection. While it didn’t check all my boxes, I appreciated its innovative approach to a typically straightforward accessory.
If you’re someone who values added sun protection and doesn’t mind a bit of fiddling during your run, this cap could be a good fit for you. It might not have been my favorite, but it’s worth considering, especially for those sunny hikes or trail runs when extra protection can make all the difference.
