It’s amazing how many times you swim, bike, run or do a brick and things just go wrong. You may have a bad head from having a fight with your partner or perhaps you may have caught something from one of your co-workers. Whatever the case, most trainings or races don’t always go the way you want.
However, when things go right, it feels AWESOME!
I trained today at home. There’s still snow on the ground and it’s a bit icy. I’m all set up in my house so I really don’t have to leave, which is so nice. Anyway, my coach, Danielle Sullivan of Iron Fit Endurance wrote on my schedule on Training Peaks to ride for 40 minutes, run for 2.5 – 3 miles and then strength train.
Every day, there’s another workout on my schedule and I love it. It just keeps me accountable. I realized that going to the gym two times a week and doing nothing else doesn’t really do much for me. I also realize that running four days a week, although great exercise, makes me more prone to injury. By swimming, cycling and running and sometimes all three, keeps me active, fit and clears my mind. When I’m doing anyone or all of these activities, I can’t think of anything else. It’s a pure escape!
So getting back to today, I biked faster than I normally ride. (And, let me tell you that CompuTrainer is freaking hard! I’ve been riding on it for nearly a month and have definitely seen improvements!) I ran faster than I normally run and I did a power strength training. It was intense but felt so incredible. I even thought I could do so much more!
I wish all training days and especially racing days were like this… but you just have to appreciate the times that it all comes together and not get so down on yourself when it doesn’t!
Tell me about your training day…
